WebJul 5, 2007 · hi guys, i have a pair of these offerred for roughly $1,600. they are mk1 meaning early 90s vintage or so. the only thing i know about them - except for lots of positive comments - is they are hell to bias, as you have to open the amp and do some serious magic to access the circuit. anyway - i am wondering what are the thoughts about it and … WebMay 12, 2024 · Those are such beautiful amps, but EAR is known to experience transformer hum. I owned a 50W stereo EAR power amp and it hummed. I sent mine in for service and the output transformers were replaced. The result was lower level hum. Put your ear to the transformers to check. Tubes don't usually hum, but it's possibly a power tube.
